About Me:
I believe in embracing the concept of impermanence, in being kind, and in having an open heart. I also believe in the strength of the human spirit. I love to laugh and smile! My heart is indeed wide open. I cultivate positive creative energy and am fiercely independent and therefore, respect independence in others. Meditation and yoga, long daily hikes, and healthy nutrition are factors that keep me centered and active. I am global and mobile, I use the world as my classroom, at times I'm the teacher, other times the student.
I have been teaching, among other subjects, World History in South America for 7 years. Two years in Venezuela and five in Brazil. I have hiked the Inca trail and been humbled by the magnificence of nature as well as by the kindness of the modern Incas. I have danced at dusk on the beaches of Bahia in Northern Brazil, after being blessed by the mãe-do santo in a candomblé ritual. I have floated through the backwaters of the Amazon, seeking to catch a glimpse of the Uacari monkey and have seen the beauty of the pink river dolphins, as well as, felt the terror as a jacaré slid from shore to river. My travels and ex-pat life have taken me many places from the Cuevas de los Gitanos in southern Spain, to the church steps of the market in Chichicastenango and to the top of the Tikal pyramids in Guatemala. From soaking in the natural springs at the base of Volcán Arenal in Costa Rica to cruising La Boca in Buenos Aires. My life in São Paulo (the city I call 'The Beast') allowed me to see both the best and the worst of humanity.
I have been back in the States since June. On sabbatical this school year, soaking up love and energy from family and friends, reading like a fiend, practicing yoga, creating art projects, loving my mom's three cats, working with my father on renovating my vacation house and simply basking in the glory of small town Lake Michigan life.

It's been a time of pause and breath. A bit of Prema, Shanti, and Satya!
Off to India in February to do volunteer work with Ramana's Garden Orphanage and school (and to participate in the International Yoga Festival) through Ambassadors for Children http://www.ambassadorsforchildren.org/ (in Rishikesh). Directly thereafter will voluteer for a month in Dharamsala with Cross Cultural Solutions http://www.crossculturalsolutions.org/ Hoping to meet his Holiness or at least catch a glimpse!!! Working with children makes the soul bright and heart sing! Check out a video of Ramana's Garden: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2fxx8_ramanas-garden_
For the months of April and May I am free as a bird to travel about India, with no concete plans yet….lots of tentative ones. Anyone going to be in India and need a travel pal at that time? Or if anyone has suggestions and tips. Drop me a line. (wink and smile).
